Guidelines for Tutors
GROVE CITY COLLEGE HAS BEEN BLESSED WITH EXCELLENT STUDENTS. TUTORING IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN SOMEONE’S LIFE HERE AT GROVE CITY COLLEGE AND YOU MAY BE JUST THE KEY THEY NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
PROCEDURE:
Every semester students are needed to volunteer as tutors. Some students are initially referred by faculty and others simply volunteer on their own. All students who are interested must complete the “I Want to be a Tutor” application. Please note this form also requires you to have a faculty signature supporting your application to tutor. When completed, the form can be returned via e-mail or to Mrs. Kathy Leonard, Director of Academic Advising, at Box 2864.
The list of available tutors is updated each semester. If, at any time, you choose not to be a tutor, please contact Mrs. Leonard at tutoring@gcc.edu and she will remove your name.
The student in need of tutoring will request a tutor via the Academic Advising website. Once their request is received, the Advising Office will send out a list of tutors in the subject area(s) needed. It is the responsibility of the student seeking help to contact a tutor and make arrangements with him/her for meeting times, location, and payment.
Occasionally, residents of the local community contact the College for tutors. On the “I Want to be a Tutor” application is a place to indicate your interest in tutoring students outside the College.
THE FEE FOR TUTORING (TO BE PAID BY THE STUDENT SEEKING HELP) IS:
$10.00 PER HOUR FOR GROVE CITY COLLEGE STUDENT
$7.00 PER STUDENT PER HOUR FOR SMALL GROUP ON CAMPUS TUTORING
$12.00 PER HOUR FOR STUDENTS OUTSIDE OF THE COLLEGE
During each semester and at year’s end, tutors and students seeking a tutor will receive a brief survey from the Advising Office. The purpose of this is to learn more about your experiences in order to enhance the tutoring program. Your feedback is important, so please be sure to return the survey.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT, AS A TUTOR, YOU ARE MAKING A COMMITMENT WHICH YOU ARE EXPECTED TO APPROACH IN AS PROFESSIONAL A MANNER AS ANY OTHER PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT. IF YOU EXPERIENCE A PROBLEM WITH A STUDENT YOU ARE TUTORING AND NEED ASSISTANCE, PLEASE CONTACT MRS. LEONARD.
