Pre-health Info

A major in Chemistry or Biochemistry provides excellent preparation for students interested in further studies within the Health Professions.  In the past few years our students have gone on to study dentistry, pharmacy and medicine including physician assistants.   A partial list of schools where our majors have been accepted (medical school except where noted):

University of Pittsburgh – Dental, Medical and Pharmacy

Tufts University Dental School

Georgetown University

Chatham University (Physician Assistant)

University of Virginia

Penn State, Hershey

West Virginia University

New York University, Mount Sinai

Drexel University

University of Maryland (Pharmacy)

Wright State University

Shenandoah University (pharmacy)

The basic requirements for taking the MCAT, DAT or PCAT are: one year of general chemistry, calculus, biology, physics, and organic chemistry.  Other requirements vary by school.  It is the student’s responsibility to research the medical schools of interest for their individual requirements.  A good resource is the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).   A link about the application process for medical school can be found on the Biology Department website.
