Chemists enjoy learning about the structure, properties and transformations of matter. We love discovering new materials and reactions, as well as developing new insights into molecular properties and processes. Chemistry comes to life in the research experience!
At Grove City College we are committed to research as a vital part of undergraduate education. In research you put into practice the concepts and skills you’ve learned in class. Sometimes things work and you get new, exciting results. Our students have published these breakthroughs in peer-reviewed journals and presented their results at scientific meetings. Often, things don’t work! While this might not seem quite as exciting, such “failures” can actually be the most productive learning experiences. You and your research advisor will puzzle through the data and come up with a new idea. With renewed hope you head back to lab perhaps this time you’ll make that breakthrough. Along the way you’ll develop skills in your research area, learn to solve scientific problems, develop relationships with your advisor and fellow researchers and start down the road to be being a scientist. Chemistry students at Grove City College have several opportunities to join in ongoing research projects, which are listed in the links below. You’ll also find links about the research some of our students have done at other institutions and a link for our department’s reflection on how our Christian faith impacts our research efforts.
