How did you connect with this job opportunity?

An application which originally started with a position as Director of Advising.

What attracted you to this position?

I enjoyed my work as a high school guidance counselor and have a passion for assisting college students in their pursuit of academic success.

What are the most gratifying aspects of your job?

When a student applies the study strategy techniques taught and experiences classroom success.

What has been/was your biggest challenge as a first-year teacher?

Adapting to a diverse student population; particularly those with learning disabilities.

How did your time at GCC prepare you for the teaching field?

Experiences and guidance from masters in the field like Dr. Stephens was a tremendous help.  He was a role model and inspiration.  Connections with faculty are so important!

What advice would you give to a current pre-service teacher in order to better prepare for their future classroom?

Lead by example and not verbally.  We desperately need Christ-centered educators in the public schools to help impact future generations.  The example that you can provide and demonstrate to students and other faculty alike is very powerful.  At the same time, get as many experiences with different groups as possible…struggling students, different ethnic groups… all of this will assist you in your career.

What job search tips would you give to GCC students?

Work with educationcareer services…this service is awesome!  Also, network and volunteer!
