What influenced your decision to go to graduate school?
I
was eager to learn as much as possible about history and methods for
effectively teaching history. The school where I was teaching provided
financial support for teachers who were willing to enroll in a graduate
program related to their teaching responsibilities, so I jumped at the
opportunity.
How did you explore graduate school?
I
wanted to find a school nearby that met both my academic and scheduling
needs. Slippery Rock University’s history department had an excellent
reputation and the graduate courses were in the evening, which allowed me
to attend classes after school hours.
Do you have any tips related to the application process?
Try to
connect with others who have been through the graduate program you are
considering. Find out if it met their learning needs and what the program
requires in terms of time and academic investment.
