Daily Learning Activities

Our curriculum is play-oriented and active so children should attend school in comfortable clothing that allows for ease in movement and "messy" projects.  Art smocks and washable paints are used, but sometimes accidents still occur.

Arrival/Greeting

The Early Education Center is located in the Grove City College Hall of Arts and Letters.  A convenient entrance to the ECC is located in the rear of the building with a place for parents to park while they bring their children into the classroom.  The EEC uses a key pad entry code system.  Each family receives an individual code to gain access to the EEC during their child's class time.

Sharing Time/Small Group Activities

Children actively participate in puzzles, games, and small manipulatives in small groups with teachers while all friends arrive.  Welcome and sharing time activities follow.

Songs/Fingerplays/Stories

Stories, songs, and finger plays are presented by EEC staff and education students in a variety of formats.  Stories are chosen to reinforce Christian values, friendships, and concept development.

Bathroom

The child-size bathroom is conveniently located in the classroom so children may use whenever necessary.  Snack time is always preceded by bathroom/wash-up time.

Snack

Nutritional snacks are provided by the EEC on a daily basis.  Cooking experiences enhance learning activities.  Special treats are provided by families for birthdays and parties.

Learning Group Activities and/or Small Group Projects

Activity time is a very interactive period of the day.  Children choose reading, dramatic play, art, tool bench, discovery, sand/water, blocks, and/or game activities.  Children are encouraged to explore a variety of materials and activities.  Throughout the year, Education students as part of their coursework, plan projects in which the children actively participate.

Large Movement Group Time and/or Outdoors

The outdoor play area is an integral part of the classroom and is equipped with child-appropriate equipment which promotes large motor development.  Additionally, many types of large movement activities occur in the classroom.
