Prospective students may be wondering what Mechanical
Engineering is all about. This engineering discipline often involves the
analysis and design of devices and systems that convert energy from one form to
another and that perform useful work. It is an engineering specialty that
includes such diverse topics as materials science, thermodynamics, solid and
fluid mechanics, heat transfer, manufacturing processes, system dynamics,
control theory, vibration analysis, and project management.
Mechanical engineers enjoy employment in a wide variety of
areas including research, design, manufacturing, production, sales, and
management. Many of our students go on to obtain advanced degrees. Our “After
Graduation” link leads you to more information on employers that have hired our
students for full-time employment or summer internships. You will also find a
list of graduate schools our students have attended.
What are some of the things that make us unique? We are one
of the few Christian colleges in the country that offers an ABET accredited1
B.S.M.E. degree. We have fantastic students, a great faculty focused on
undergraduate education, and first-rate facilities. Our year-long senior design
program is one of the best around. Select the “Projects” link to review recent
capstone design projects.
If you become part of our department, get involved in our
student technical societies – ASME, ASHRAE, SWE, or SAE (follow the
“Organizations” link for details). Take part in national student competitions
such as the Society of Automotive Engineers Mini-Baja competition or the
American Society of Mechanical Engineers Human Powered Vehicle Challenge.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us better.
Don’t hesitate to contact us or visit the Mechanical Engineering department if
you would like additional information.
