Internship

The Department of Psychology encourages students to pursue internship opportunities to supplement their educational experiences in the classroom. Internships provide important exposure to the kind of work a psychology major might engage in following graduation. While there are a few local sites with which our majors have found internships during the academic year, generally students get these internship experiences during the summer at an institution near their hometowns. Examples of recent internships in psychology include experiences at children's aid societies, state departments of correction, county children and youth services agencies, pregnancy counseling programs, drug and alcohol counseling organizations, student personnel offices, and summer camps for special needs children. These internship experiences can provide the student with important information about what kind of work she or he might be interested in following college. The deadline for summer psychology internship applications is study day of the preceding spring semester.
