Constitution of Newman Club

ARTICLE I NAME

The name of this organization shall be Newman Club of Grove City College.

ARTICLE II DESCRIPTION

The Newman Club is a fellowship organization which seeks to meet the needs of Roman Catholic students at Grove City College.

ARTICLE III MISSION

The Newman Club shall strive for unity of the Christians on campus by upholding the Roman Catholic Church and all its teachings. The goals and purposes of the Newman Club are consistent with the mission of Grove City College. We will contribute to the mission by:

• 1. educate members by sharing and discussing issues that pertain to our faith
• 2. service to the campus and community
• 3. provide fellowship activities

We will also adhere to the standards of conduct as delineated in the student handbook, The Crimson.

ARTICLE IV PARTICIPATION

1. Participation is open to all students.
2. Officers:
The service/ outreach activities shall be overseen by the officers.

• a. President. The responsibilities shall include but not be limited to:
• 1. Organize and run the meetings
• 2. Organize the Spring retreat
• 3. Oversee all activities
• b. Vice President. The responsibilities shall include but not be limited to:
• 1. Run the meetings in the absence of the president
• 2. Assist the president in all activities
• c. Secretary. The responsibilities shall include but not be limited to:
• 1. Publish a weekly newsletter to be sent to the general membership
• 2. Maintain an updated list of members
• d. Treasurer. The responsibilities shall include but not be limited to:
• 1. Maintain the financial records of the organization
• 2. Collect the dues
• e. Student Chaplain/Historian. The responsibilities shall include but not be limited to:
• 1. Maintain the Newman Club library
• 2. Oversee the religious activities of the group
• 3. Organize the Fall retreat
• 4. Maintain the scrapbook

3. Advisor. The advisor shall be a member of the faculty or administration of Grove City College.
4. Chaplain. The chaplain shall be appointed by the Diocese of Erie with the approval of Grove City College administration.

ARTICLE V SELECTION OF OFFICERS

1. Elections shall be held in April at a date to be set by the officers. The new officer shall assume their offices two weeks before the end of the school year.
2. In the event that the president steps down from office, the vice-president will automatically become the new president, and a replacement for the vice-president shall be elected. This replacement must have been a member of Newman Club for at least one year. If any other officer steps down from office, a replacement shall be elected from the general membership.

ARTICLE VI MEETINGS

1. Meetings of the Newman Club shall be held once a week or more often as necessary. Notice of the meetings shall be put in the newsletter.

2. The officers shall meet once a week in addition to the general meeting.

ARTICLE VII FUNDING

Dues shall be collected at the beginning of the Fall semester but are not mandatory. The amount of the dues shall be two or three dollars. The money shall be spent with the approval of the officers. All checks drafted by the Newman Club shall be signed by the treasurer and either the president or vice president.

ARTICLE VIII AMENDMENTS

By-laws and revisions of the constitution of the Newman Club shall be introduced by the officers. The approval is based on a 3/5 majority of the officers, approval of the advisor and chaplain, and a 2/3 majority of the general membership. The Grove City College Administrative Council must also approve all amendments.
