Grove City competes at ECAC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Twelve Grove City College track and field athletes competed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championships at Springfield College Thursday and Friday.

Senior Chris Huber (Ontario, Ohio/Ontario) led Grove City's effort at the Championships by finishing fourth overall in the shot put. Huber posted a mark of 48 feet, 9 1/2 inches.

Three other Grove City throws competed at the ECAC meet. Junior Tony Clark (Stow, Ohio/Stow) placed 11th in the discus with a throw of 142-2. Junior Matt Ridge (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) took 12th in the shot (45-2 1/2) while senior Matt Six (Akron, Ohio/Manchester) finished 18th in the discus with a mark of 136-3.

Sophomore John Fite, senior Chris Allebach (Souderton, Pa./Souderton), junior Tim Palma (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) and freshman Nick Philpot (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) set a new program record in the 1600-meter relay by posting a time of 3 minutes, 21.63 seconds. The quartet finished 17th overall.

Fite, Allebach, Palma and senior Charlie Roth (Butler, Pa./Homeschooled) earned 14th in the 400-meter relay with a time of 43.62 seconds.

Junior Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) took 14th in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 9:43.58 while Fite finished 25th in the 400 (51.06).

On the women's side, sophomore Kate Balmer (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) took 17th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.36. Freshman Morgan Osterhouse (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) placed 17th in the steeplechase with a time of 12:07.77.
