Grove City competes in ECAC meet

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Several members of Grove City College's men's and women's track and field teams participated in the 2008 Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Springfield College Thursday and Friday.

Senior Bob Perri (Washington, Pa./Trinity) led Grove City by placing sixth in the shot put. Perri posted a best toss of 49 feet, 1/4 inch. Junior Chris Huber (Ontario, Ohio/Ontario) took 10th in the shot put with a mark of 45-7 1/4 while Perri placed 14th in the discus (133-9). Sophomore Tony Clark (Stow, Ohio/Stow) finished 16th in the discus with a throw of 132-6.

In the 400 hurdles, junior Chris Allebach (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) placed 17th with a time of 56.37 seconds.

Allebach, junior Jon Coopersmith (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge), freshman John Fite (Sunnyvale, Calif./Ad Fontes) and sophomore Tim Palma (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) concluded the meet by taking 11th in the 1600 relay with a time of 3:24.76. Allebach, Palma, senior Matt Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) and junior Charlie Roth (Butler, Pa./Homeschooled) took 24th in the 400 relay (49.42).

On the women's side, freshman Kate Balmer (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) took 10th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.73 seconds. It is the second-fastest time in the 100 in program history. Balmer set the school record of 12.51 April 26 at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships.

Balmer, Senior Mary Majchrowicz (Sunnyvale, Calif./The King's Academy) , senior Brittany Moore (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) and junior Katie Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) finished 10th in the 1600 relay with a school-record time of 4:07.15. That quartet also competed in the 400 relay and took 21st in 51.70 seconds, which is the second-fastest time in program history.

Majchrowicz took 12th in the 400 with a time of 59.72 while junior Megan Fellows (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) placed 18th in the discus with a toss of 101 feet. Freshman Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon Central) competed in the 1500 and took 26th with a time of 4:54.90.

Moravian won both the men's and women's team titles at the ECAC Championships.
