Wolverines compete at ECAC Championships

TROY, N.Y. -- Thirteen Grove City College track and field athletes competed in the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Track and Field Championships, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Thursday and Friday. Grove City athletes set three new school records during the two-day event.

On the men's side, sophomore John Green (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) set a new school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.18 seconds, good for seventh place overall. He also placed 11th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.20 seconds.

In the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) established a new school mark with a time of 11:27.26. Cessar took 11th overall.

Cessar, sophomore Austin Powell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca), freshman Caroline Kimpel (Columbiana, Ohio/Columbiana) and sophomore Cayla Clawson (York, Pa./Central York) set a new Grove City record in the 3200-meter relay with a time of 9:55.18. That quartet finished 18th.

Junior Mary Kate Breese (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) recorded the top finish for the women's team at the meet by finishing eighth in the 5000 (17:46.58). Breese finished one spot ahead of junior Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker), who finished ninth in the 5000 with a time of 17:48.98.

Junior Anna Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) placed 21st in the 10,000 meters in 40:07.97. Sophomore Laurel Skorup (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) captured 22nd in the steeplechase (11:55.88).

Green anchored Grove City's 400-meter relay, which placed 14th in a season-best time of 43.22 seconds. Sophomore Mun Hwan Cho (Seoul, Korea/Houghton Academy), sophomore Andrew Ledbetter (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) and junior Patrik Miller (Berlin, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) comprised the first three legs of the relay.

Sophomore Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) placed 15th in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:21.06.

Ithaca won the women's team title with 62 points and Rowan recorded 49 team points in winning the men's crown.
