Wolverines compete in ECAC Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Eight Grove City College track and field athletes competed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships Friday afternoon at Moravian College.

On the women's side, sophomore Sara Fisher (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) led the Wolverine effort by taking sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17 minutes, 48.74 seconds. Fisher netted three team points in the standings by finishing sixth.

Two other Grove City runners also competed in the 5,000. Senior Emily Pierce (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon) earned 17th with a time of 18:30.98 and sophomore Ella Smith (Becker, Minn./Becker) captured 28th with a time of 18:57.45.

Junior Hannah Tubb (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) competed in the 800 and placed 12th overall with a Grove City-record time of 2:18.13. She broke her previous record of 2:18.45, set at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships April 30.

Grove City's men's team competed in the 4x400-meter relay and set a new school record in the event with a time of 3:21.60. Senior John Fite (Clifton, Va./Ad Fontes), junior Nick Philpot (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown), sophomore Patrik Miller (Berlin, Ohio/Hiland) and freshman John Green (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) earned 16th place overall. Their time broke the previous school record -- set in 2009 -- by .03 seconds.

Ithaca won the women's team title with 80.5 points and Bates won the men's crown with 63 points.
