ECAC honors Magister, Fisher

CENTERVILLE, Mass. -- Two Grove City College athletes earned Division III All-South honors from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Wednesday afternoon.

In baseball, sophomore catcher Marcus Magister (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) earned First Team recognition while senior second baseman Amy Fisher (Streetsboro, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) landed on the ECAC Second Team for softball.

This spring, Magister set new single-season school records with 13 home runs and 52 runs batted in. He led Grove City in hitting (.443), total bases (104), slugging percentage (.852), on-base percentage (.506) and tied for the team lead with 43 runs scored.

Magister led the Presidents' Athletic Conference in home runs, slugging percentage and sacrifice flies (8) this year and earned First Team All-PAC recognition. A converted outfielder, Magister finished the season with 54 total hits. He also finished third in the PAC in batting average and fourth in on-base percentage.

Magister had 19 multi-hit games this year and closed the season on a nine-game hitting streak. He hit safely in 22 of Grove City's final 25 games and recorded seven games with at least three hits. He also hit .451 (23 of 51) with runners in scoring position.

Magister is second all-time at Grove City with 16 career home runs. He earned Third Team All-America honors from D3Baseball.com following the season and also received First Team All-Mideast Region from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). He also earned First Team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference.

Fisher started all 36 games for Grove City this spring and hit .371. She led the team with 43 total hits, 14 extra-base hits, 62 total bases and 24 runs batted in. Fisher also led the team in slugging percentage (.534) and on-base percentage (.414). She also pitched in 11 games and posted a 1-2 record.

Fisher earned First Team All-PAC at second base from the league's head coaches following the season.

Fisher is Grove City's all-time leader with 135 games played. She is a four-year starter at the middle infield positions. In 2008, Fisher set new single-season program records with 29 runs scored and 36 runs batted in.

This is the second time this spring that Magister and Fisher have been honored simultaneously. Both players earned College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District recognition earlier this month. Fisher landed on the First Team while the region's sports information directors honored Magister as a Second Team selection.
