Grove City hires Fuss as new softball coach

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Michelle “Chelle” Fuss is Grove City College’s new head softball coach and assistant women’s basketball coach.

Fuss comes to Grove City from Geneva College, where she worked as the school’s conference services director from 1999-2006. While at Geneva, Fuss served as Geneva’s head softball coach during the 1996 season, and then again from 1998-2000.

In four years as head coach, she led the Golden Tornadoes to a 77-55 record. Her 1999 squad became the first Geneva softball team to advance to an NAIA regional tournament. For her efforts that spring, Fuss earned the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Regional Coach of the Year award.

Fuss also held the position of assistant women’s basketball coach for four years (1994-96, 1997-99) at Geneva.

As a student-athlete at Geneva, Fuss excelled on both the basketball court and the softball diamond. As a point guard, she distributed a Geneva-record 567 career assists. Her 1,333 career points rank sixth in school history. Fuss earned NCCAA All-America honors during her career as well as NAIA All-District recognition.

Fuss also achieved All-District honors in softball at shortstop during all four years of her playing career.

Fuss graduated from Geneva in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in speech and broadcast communications and is completing her master’s degree in higher education at Geneva.

At Grove City, Fuss will take over a softball program that will return eight starters from the 2006 season. Grove City went 12-15-1 this past spring.

She will also work with new head women’s basketball coach Sarah Harris this winter. The women’s basketball team has four projected starters returning from last year’s 9-17 campaign.

Fuss will hold the rank of assistant professor of physical education.
