Tennis teams earn ITA academic honors
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's and men's tennis teams both earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team awards in recognition of the squads' respective performance in the classroom during the 2011-12 academic year.
The ITA All-Academic award is given to teams who achieve a combined grade-point average of 3.20 or above during the year. The men's team earned All-Academic honors for the third straight season and fifth time in the last six years while the women have achieved All-Academic three times in the last four years.
Additionally, seven Grove City tennis players earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. On the women's team, recent graduates Megan Bennett (Poland, Ohio/Poland), Emily Buurma (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and Stacy Moon (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) all earned Scholar-Athlete recognition.
The men's team produced four ITA Scholar-Athletes: recent graduates Steve Harrison (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) and Scott Yanak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair), rising senior Caleb Fuller (Columbus, Ind./Homeschooled) and rising senior Daniel McLaughlin (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler). All four players also earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status in 2011.
Scholar-Athlete recognition goes to players who achieve a 3.50 GPA or higher while also qualifying for a varsity letter in their season of competition.
