Tennis teams earn ITA All-Academic

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's and men's tennis teams each recently earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) All-Academic team award in recognition of the teams' respective performance in the classroom. The All-Academic team award is presented to squads that achieve a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher during the 2009-10 academic year.

Ten players also earned the ITA's Scholar-Athlete award, which is presented to student-athletes who achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and also earn a varsity letter during the season.

On the men's side, recent graduates Peter Davis (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian), Blake Fortier (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) and Shaun Mills (Pittsgrove, N.J./A.P. Schalick) all earned Scholar-Athlete recognition. Four underclassmen also received the award: rising sophomores Josiah Becker (Kingsport, Tenn./Homeschooled), Caleb Fuller (Columbus, Ind./Homeschooled) and Daniel McLaughlin (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler), along with rising junior Steve Harrison (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County).

Recent graduate Lisa Baldwin (Charlotte, N.C./Covenant Day), rising junior Megan Bennett (Poland, Ohio/Poland) and rising junior Stacy Moon (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) earned Scholar-Athlete recognition on the women's side.

Grove City's men's tennis team earned the All-Academic team award in 2007 and 2008. The women's team earned the award for the second consecutive season.

The Grove City men's and women's tennis teams will open the 2010-11 schedule Tuesday, September 2 at West Liberty State.
