Conference honors Adams, Branch

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Presidents' Athletic Conference honored two Grove City College fall sports athletes as Players of the Week for their respective sports Monday afternoon. Senior defender Daniel Adams (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition in men's soccer while senior middle hitter Ashley Branch (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian) captured the Player of the Week honor for volleyball.

Adams' work at outside back helped the Wolverines earn two shutouts last week in conference play. He helped limit Thiel to just one shot on goal October 8 in Grove City's 2-0 victory. Against visiting Bethany Saturday, Adams keyed a defense that limited the Bison to just seven total shots.

Adams has helped anchor a Grove City defense which has allowed just 11 goals this season. The Wolverines have four shutouts and an aggregate 0.85 goals-against average for the season.

Grove City (5-5-2, 2-1 PAC) hosts conference rival Geneva Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Branch helped lead Grove City's volleyball team to three conference victories last week. She played a pivotal role in the Wolverines' come-from-behind 3-2 win over visiting Saint Vincent Saturday afternoon by recording 14 kills and 12 digs. Earlier Saturday, she had seven kills and four blocks in a sweep of Washington & Jefferson.

Branch opened the week with 10 kills at Waynesburg last Wednesday, helping lead Grove City to a 3-0 victory. She posted a .343 hitting percentage and recorded 31 total kills in the three wins.

She ranks second in the conference with a .354 hitting percentage. Branch sits fifth in the league in kill average at 2.69. Branch also earned the conference's Player of the Week award September 2. She is the first Grove City player to twice earn Player of the Week honors since Carlie Roberts in 2004.

Grove City (12-8, 6-4 PAC) hosts Geneva Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
