Moon, Quinn honored by conference

WEXFORD, Pa. -- Two Grove City College student-athletes earned Player of the Week recognition from the Presidents' Athletic Conference Monday evening in recognition of their respective performances last week.

Senior Stacy Moon (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) earned the conference's Player of the Week honor in women's tennis and junior forward Andrew Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) captured Offensive Player of the Week distinction in men's soccer.

Moon posted a combined 4-0 record last week in helping Grove City earn conference wins at Chatham and Thomas More. Moon earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at first singles October 11 at Chatham and also teamed with classmate Megan Bennett (Poland, Ohio/Poland) for an 8-1 triumph at first doubles.

Saturday, Moon picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory at first singles against Thomas More. She also combined with Bennett for an 8-2 decision at first doubles.

Moon owns a 10-3 record at first singles this year, including an 8-0 mark against conference foes. The Moon-Bennett combo is 9-3 at first doubles. For her career, Moon is 43-14 in singles play and 41-14 in doubles action.

Grove City (10-4, 8-1 PAC) will compete in the conference championships Friday and Saturday at the Pennbriar Club in Erie, Pa. The Wolverines are in pursuit of their 25th straight league title.

Quinn scored in both of Grove City's conference victories last week. His penalty kick goal in the 84th minute at Thiel October 11 gave Grove City a 1-0 victory. Saturday, he scored twice in the first half of Grove City's 4-1 home win over Washington & Jefferson. Quinn scored the eventual game-winner at 36:59, then added an insurance goal at the 43:48 mark.

Quinn leads Grove City with seven goals this year. He also leads Grove City (9-4, 4-1 PAC) with 15 points and three game-winning goals. Quinn ranks second in the conference in game-winning goals, fourth in total goals and fifth in points. He has 18 career goals.

The Wolverines will visit Carnegie Mellon Wednesday night in non-conference action. Saturday, Grove City hosts league foe Geneva at 1 p.m.
