Conference honors Alfery, Rabenold

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Presidents' Athletic Conference honored two Grove City College fall sports athletes as Players of the Week for their respective sports Monday afternoon. Sophomore goalkeeper Brenden Alfery (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition in men's soccer while sophomore Emily Rabenold (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) was named co-Runner of the Week for women's cross country.

Alfery's work in goal helped the Wolverines to a 1-0-1 week in conference play. He made six saves and allowed just one goal in 97:29 of action in the Wolverines' overtime victory over Geneva before stopping five shots in a 0-0 tie at Washington & Jefferson.

On the season, Alfery has recorded two shutouts and owns an 0.80 goals against average and an .854 save percentage.

Grove City (6-5-3, 3-1-1 PAC) hosts travels to non-conference opponent Point Park Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Rabenold shared Runner of the Week honors with Geneva's Alayna Merkle after both runners ran identical times of 22:21.20 at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday to finish 18th out of 287 runners.

Rabenold's time shattered her own personal best and ranks as the top time in the PAC this year. Additionally, her time ranks among the top 10 times in Grove City history.

The Grove City women's cross country team will next compete at the PAC Championships, hosted by Chatham University on November 2 in Gibsonia, Pa.
