Devlin, Yost earn weekly awards

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Two Grove City College athletes earned weekly honors Monday night in recognition of their performances last week. In football, junior cornerback Kurt Devlin (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) earned Presidents' Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week while in women's soccer, sophomore goalkeeper Tiffany Yost (Christiana, Pa./Living Word) captured the conference's Defensive Player/Goalkeeper of the Week award.

Devlin also earned a spot on D3Football.com's "Team of the Week" for his efforts.

Devlin tied a single-game Grove City record with three interceptions in the Wolverines' 21-16 conference victory over visiting Saint Vincent Saturday afternoon at Robert E. Thorn Field. His first two interceptions set up Grove City touchdowns. Devlin's third pick came with 1:13 left, helping seal the victory.

Devlin also made a team-high 10 tackles, including seven solo stops. He now has 26 tackles for the season in seven games. His three interceptions this year lead the team.

Devlin became the first Grove City player with three interceptions in one game since Brock McCullough had three picks October 16, 1999 in a 24-21 Homecoming victory over Waynesburg. Current head coach Chris Smith also shares that single-game interception record with three picks in a 10-7 win over Bethany November 16, 1968.

Yost's work in goal helped Grove City to a 3-0 week last week. She made nine total saves and did not allow a goal in 180 minutes of action. She played 45 scoreless minutes in a 9-1 win over Chatham October 18. Three days later, Yost earned a shutout win over conference rival Geneva as Grove City pulled out a 1-0 win.

Yost capped the week by playing a scoreless first half in Grove City's 2-1 non-conference overtime win at Susquehanna. This season, she has posted a 1.13 goals-against average while helping the Wolverines record five shutouts.

The women's soccer team hosts Saint Vincent Wednesday at 1 p.m. in conference action. The football squad hosts Washington & Jefferson Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on Senior Day.
