Six earn CoSIDA Academic All-District
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Six Grove City College soccer players earned Academic All-District recognition from ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday morning through voting by the region's sports information directors.
On the men's side, sophomore forward Chuck Witt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) earned Third Team Academic All-District honors. Meanwhile, five members of the women's squad earned Academic All-District. Sophomore midfielder Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins), junior midfielder Michelle Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) and junior Lauren Woodring (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) all earned Second Team All-District.
Senior goalkeeper Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) and senior forward Stephanie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian) both earned Third Team All-District.
Witt is a two-year starter for Grove City (5-10-3, 3-2-1 PAC). He currently leads the team with four goals this year and is second on the squad with eight total points. Witt has started 17 of 18 matches this year.
A mechanical engineering major, Witt owns a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average. He is a Dean's List student and has been named to the Presidents' Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll. Witt is a member of the College's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Roundtable men's sophomore honorary. Witt has also earned the College's Presidential Scholarship.
Ostlund is a two-year starter for Grove City's women's soccer squad and earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) First Team All-Region in 2007. She led Grove City with 15 goals in 2007. This year, Ostlund is third on the squad with seven goals, including a pair of game-winners.
Ostlund has earned a 3.80 GPA while majoring in molecular biology and Spanish. She is a Dean's List student and has been named to the conference's Academic Honor Roll.
Peck is in her third year as a starter for the Wolverines (10-7-2, 5-2). She is fourth on the team with six goals and 15 total points this year. Peck is also tied for second on the team in assists this year.
Peck has a 3.75 cumulative GPA as a molecular biology major. She is a Dean's List student and a Presidential Scholarship recipient. Peck also earned a spot on the PAC Academic Honor Roll. She earned induction into the Crown & Sceptre sophomore women's honorary and the Beta Beta Beta national biology honorary.
Woodring earned Third Team Academic All-District at forward as a sophomore in 2007. She started much of 2008 at defender before recently returning to her natural position of forward. While at defender, Woodring helped the Wolverines post five shutouts.
She is a three-year letterwinner and two-year starter. In 2007, Woodring ranked third on the team in goals (6), assists (4) and points (15). A Dean's List student, Woodring has a 3.89 GPA while majoring in mathematics/secondary education. She is a Presidential Scholarship recipient and has been named to the conference's Academic Honor Roll. Woodring has also been inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi and Kappa Mu Epsilon honoraries.
Pragel is a three-year starter and a four-year letterwinner in goal for the Wolverines. This year, Pragel has helped Grove City record seven shutouts. She has a 1.17 goals-against average and a career-high 10 wins this year.
An accounting major, Pragel has achieved a 3.80 GPA during her career as a student-athlete. Pragel is a Dean's List student and has also earned a spot on the PAC Academic Honor Roll. She is a Presidential Scholarship recipient and is also a member of the Delta Mu Delta business honorary.
Wild is in her third season as a starting forward for Grove City. She leads the team with four assists and 20 points. Her eight goals this year rank second on the squad. A two-time First Team All-PAC selection, Wild also earned NSCAA Second Team All-Region in 2007.
Wild owns a 3.55 cumulative GPA as a chemistry major. She is a Dean's List student and has been named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll. Wild has been inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa and the Kemikos chemistry honorary. A Presidential Scholarship recipient, she is also listed in Who's Who Among Students In American Universities and Colleges.
District II includes all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
