Pell, Bowser earn weekly honors

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Two Grove City College athletes earned weekly honors in recognition of their respective outstanding recent performances.

In football, sophomore quarterback Brian Pell (Streamwood, Ill./Wheaton Academy) earned Presidents' Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Offensive Player of the Week recognition.

In men's swimming and diving, senior Ben Bowser (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) captured the PAC's Swimmer of the Week award.

Pell completed 21 of 33 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns Saturday afternoon in Grove City's come-from-behind 24-21 victory over conference rival Washington & Jefferson at Robert E. Thorn Field. The Wolverines trailed 21-0 before charging back for the victory.

Pell's 305-yard performance ranks fourth all-time on Grove City's single-game passing list. He also became just the third Wolverine quarterback to throw four or more touchdowns in one game, joining Sam Mowrey (2003) and Andrew DiDonato (2009).

For the season, Pell is 91 of 155 for 970 yards and seven touchdowns, along with just five interceptions. He has also rushed for 123 yards on 44 attempts. Grove City will visit conference foe Bethany Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Bowser opened his senior season October 22 by winning two events at the Clarion University Fall Classic. Bowser won the 100 butterfly in 54.41 seconds and then won the 200 individual medley in 2:02.81.

Bowser earned the PAC's Most Valuable Performer award at the 2011 conference championships and is a three-year letterwinner for the Wolverines. Grove City will open its conference schedule Saturday at 1 p.m. against Saint Vincent in dual-meet action in the James E. Longnecker Pool.
