GROVE CITY, Pa. – Sophomore goalkeeper Brenden Alfery (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) and freshman midfielder Dale Reese (Rocky Hill, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) have both earned weekly honors for their efforts during the week of October 28-November 3.
Alfery has been recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as the Disney Soccer/NSCAA Division III Men's Player of the Week while Reese was honored as the Corvias/ECAC Division III South Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Alfery was the goalkeeper of record for the Wolverines in both of their matches, posting a 1-0-1 record with a 0.53 GAA, a .957 save percentage and a combined shutout in 171:09 of action.
Alfery helped Grove City to a 1-1 tie with Presidents' Athletic Conference-leading Thomas More by posting a career-high 18 saves in goal on Saturday. His 18 saves were the highest total by a PAC goalkeeper in the past two seasons and the most by a Grove City keeper since at least 1998.
Earlier in the week, Alfery made four saves in 61:09 in goal to combine for the shutout in the Wolverines' 3-0 victory over Saint Vincent.
For the season, Alfery ranks 11th among NCAA DIII players with a PAC-best .883 save percentage and 50th in goals-against average (0.76).
Reese recorded two goals and an assist on the week for the Wolverines. He assisted on the game-winner against Saint Vincent before adding a goal of his own on Wednesday. He then scored the game-tying goal against Thomas More.
On the season, Reese leads the Wolverines in assists (3) and is second in both goals (7) and points (17). In PAC play, Reese shares the conference lead with Thomas More's Jake Plummer in both goals (6) and points (13).
Grove City (8-5-5) earned the #3-seed in the upcoming Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament. The Wolverines travel to second-seeded Washington and Jefferson tonight for a 7 p.m. semifinal match. During the regular season, Grove City battled the Presidents to a 0-0 draw in Washington on October 19.
