Salera, Walsh earn Academic All-District
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Two Grove City College student-athletes earned College Division First Team Academic All-District honors from ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon. Junior guard Dave Salera (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) earned First Team at offensive line for football while senior setter Kim Walsh (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) earned First Team for volleyball.
As First Team selections, Salera and Walsh will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.
Salera has started eight games at right guard for Grove City this season after playing extensively as a reserve in 2006. He earned the team's Offensive Player of the Week award for Grove City's Sept. 29 game at Westminster.
In the classroom, Salera owns a 3.77 cumulative grade-point average as an accounting major. He has attained Dean's List honors in each of his four semesters and is a two-time Presidents' Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll selection. Salera has also been inducted into the Operation Top Management and Delta Mu Delta business honoraries.
Walsh is earning her third straight Academic All-District award. She earned Third Team Academic All-District in 2005, then earned Second Team status as a junior in 2006. She is a four-year starter at setter for Grove City and helped the Wolverines to a 20-12 mark this season.
This year, Walsh set new Grove City records for assists in a single match (69), assists in one season (1,403) and career assists (4,409). She recently earned Second Team All-PAC for the second consecutive season.
A communication studies major, Walsh has a 3.94 GPA. She is a six-time Dean's List selection and has made the PAC Academic Honor Roll in each of her three seasons. Walsh is a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honorary and the Lambda Pi Eta communication studies honorary. She is also a Presidential Scholarship recipient and is employed by the College's sports information office.
District II includes all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
