ECAC honors Skyrm, Lathrop

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Two Grove City College fall sports athletes recently earned Player of the Week honors from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). In football, junior outside linebacker Jason Skyrm (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) captured ECAC Division III Southwest Defensive Player of the week honors while in women's soccer, junior goalkeeper Kristi Lathrop (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) earned ECAC Division III South Defensive Player of the Week.

Skyrm helped lead the Grove City defense in the Wolverines' 36-26 win over visiting Saint Vincent last Saturday by posting eight total tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. His forced fumble came on the first offensive play of the game, setting up Grove City's first score.

For the season, Skyrm leads Grove City with 10 tackles for loss. He is third on the team with 75 total tackles and fourth with two quarterback sacks.

Grove City (4-5 overall) will visit Thiel Saturday in the 30th annual Mercer County Cup game at 1 p.m. in Greenville.

Lathrop started both matches in goal for Grove City in last week's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. She yielded just one goal in 180 minutes while stopping eight total shots. Lathrop earned the shutout win November 5 in the semifinal round by making two saves in a 1-0 win over Westminster. Three days later, she stopped six shots in the championship match against No. 14 Thomas More. Grove City dropped a 1-0 decision.

Lathrop has played 14 matches in goal this year, including 10 starts. She has a 5-3-0 record and an 0.91 goals-against average. Lathrop also boasts an .804 save percentage.

Grove City (12-9-1) has advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC Division III South Championship Tournament. The Wolverines will play at top-seeded Stevenson Saturday at 5 p.m.
