Rabenold, McRae qualify for NCAA Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Two Grove City College cross country runners have qualified for this Saturday's NCAA Division III Championships, which will be hosted by Hanover College (Ind.). Sophomore Emily Rabenold (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) will represent the Grove City women's team and senior Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) qualified on the men's side.

Both runners are making their first trip to the national championships.

Rabenold finished 10th place overall last Saturday at the NCAA Mideast Championships in Bethlehem, Pa., with a time of 21 minutes, 45 seconds. She earned All-Mideast Region honors by placing in the top 35 in the 358-runner field. On November 2, Rabenold earned Presidents' Athletic Conference Most Valuable Performer recognition by winning the individual race in a time of 21:45.6.

It is the first time that the Grove City women's cross country program will be represented at the NCAA Championships since 2010, when the Wolverines qualified as a team.

McRae also earned All-Region honors at the Mideast Championships by placing 15th out of 364 runners. He set a new school record for eight kilometers by posting a time of 25:09 Saturday in Bethlehem.

McRae placed second overall at the conference championships November 2 with a time of 25:39.2. He is the first Grove City men's runner to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Garrett Cichowitz qualified in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday. The men's race starts at 12:30 p.m.
