Three compete in NCAA Championships

HANOVER, Ind. -- Three Grove City College cross country runners competed in the NCAA Division III Championships Saturday, hosted by Hanover College.

Senior Julia Seward (Elizabethton, Tenn./Science Hill) led Grove City on the women's side by finishing 38th overall. She completed the six-kilometer course in 21 minutes, 49.14 seconds. The 38th-place finish is a career best for Seward, who took 129th at the 2007 Championships.

Senior Kristen Carter (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham) made her third appearance in the NCAA meet and finished 131st with a time of 22:41.24. Two years ago, she finished 175th at the NCAA Championships. Last year, Carter earned All-America honors with a 26th-place finish. She finishes her career as Grove City's first three-time national qualifier in cross country.

In men's competition, sophomore Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) made his debut at the national meet and placed 133rd overall. He posted a time of 25:48.05 for eight kilometers.

Hamilton's Peter Kosgei won the men's race with a victorious time of 24:22.03. Bethel junior Marie Borner won the women's race in 20:43.91.
