Witt, Yang earn All-Great Lakes

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College senior men's soccer co-captain Chuck Witt (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) and Grove City senior women's soccer player Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) earned Third Team All-Great Lakes honors Thursday from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in recognition of their respective performance during the 2010 season.

A senior midfielder, Witt helped lead Grove City to the finals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Championship Tournament. He scored a team-leading 11 goals and also led the team with 22 total points. Witt earned First Team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference along with Academic All-America distinction from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and ESPN.

Grove City finished with a 15-6-2 overall record and a 6-1 mark in conference play. The 15 wins are the second-most in program history. He started all 23 matches this year and earned his fourth letter.

A senior forward, Yang helped Grove City to a 12-8-1 overall record and the No. 2 seed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Championship Tournament. Her 18 goals are the second-most in program history. She led the team with five game-winning goals and 40 total points. She began the season at defender before moving up front early in the season.

Yang earned All-PAC three times in her career and is a four-year letterwinner. She earned PAC Player of the Year honors this year.

Witt is Grove City's first men's NSCAA All-Region selection since forward Bob McNees in 2006. A total of 18 Grove City men's soccer players have been honored as NSCAA All-Region since 1972. Yang is the first women's player to earn All-Region since current senior Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins), defender Kristin Colley and midfielder Stephanie Wild all earned All-Region recognition in 2007. Six Grove City women's players have earned NSCAA All-Region since 2003.
