Magister earns First Team All-Region

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College sophomore catcher Marcus Magister (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) earned First Team All-Mideast Region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Tuesday afternoon.

This spring, Magister assembled one of the finest offensive seasons in Grove City history. He set new single-season program records with 13 home runs and 52 runs batted in. Magister led Grove City in hitting (.443), total bases (104), slugging percentage (.852), on-base percentage (.506) and tied for the team lead with 43 runs scored.

Magister led the PAC in home runs, slugging percentage and sacrifice flies (8) this year. A converted outfielder, Magister finished the season with 54 total hits. He also finished third in the PAC in batting average and fourth in on-base percentage.

Magister is second all-time at Grove City with 16 career home runs. Earlier this month, he earned Academic All-District from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

As a First Team All-Region selection, Magister is now a candidate for ABCA All-America consideration.

It is the fourth straight year that a Grove City player has earned ABCA All-Region honors. Outfielder Brian Moran earned All-Mideast honors in 2007 and 2008. In 2006, pitcher Erik Arnesen earned ABCA All-Region recognition. Arnesen is now at Class AA Harrisburg in the Washington Nationals organization.
