Wolverines drop opener at Westminster
NEW WILMINGTON, PA, March 15, 2000--Westminster's Brian Zima surrendered just five hits and struck out nine over eight innings as the Titans defeated Grove City 5-0 in the Wolverine season opener in New Wilmington.
Mike Kashurba (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) collected two hits for Grove City (0-1), while Adam Booth (Hartville, OH/Lake), Nate Kauffman (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) and Dennis Allen (Shaler, PA/Shaler) had a hit each.
Westminster (2-3) scored one in the first, one in the second, two in the third and one in the seventh. The Titans banged out 11 hits, including nine singles.
Brian Kaufold (Butler, PA/Butler) started and took the loss, allowing seven hits and three earned runs in four innings. Kaufold fanned one and walked one. Mike Suchan (Independence, OH/Independence) worked three innings, allowing two hits and one run, while striking out one. J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University) added a scoreless inning of relief.
