Wolverines sweep Hawks, claw back to .500

GROVE CITY, PA, April 26, 2000--The Wolverine baseball team snapped a 13-inning scoreless streak with 20 runs in a doubleheader sweep over visiting Hilbert College Wednesday afternoon.  Grove City won by finals of 6-2 and 14-13 to even its overall record to 13-13.  The Hawks from Hamburg, NY fell to 2-14.

Mike Kashurba (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) went 4-for-4 with a double in the first game as the Wolverines rallied from a 1-0 first-inning deficit with a run in the second, three in the third, one in the fourth and one in the fifth to pull ahead 6-1.  J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University), Drew Hoagland (Butler, PA/Knoch) and Jason Onyshko (Valencia, PA/Mars) added a pair of hits each.

Justin Magee (Grove City, PA/Grove City) notched the complete-game victory (2-4) as the Hawks managed just two unearned runs on five hits.  Magee fanned six and walked two.

In the nightcap, the Wolverines struck first with four runs in the opening frame before Hilbert posted six in the second.  Louden put Grove City on top 7-6  in the third with a three-run homer -- his third of the season.  The Hawks rallied to lead 10-8 in the fifth, but GCC put up a six spot in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run homer by Steve Navarro (Gilbertsville, PA/The Hill School) -- his first -- and back-to-back triples by Ben Helms (Mead, WA/St. George School) and Adam Booth (Hartville, OH/Lake).  Kashurba, Louden and Nate Kauffman (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) each went 3-for-4 in the victory.

Brian Kaufold (Butler, PA/Butler) got the win (2-2), striking out three and walking two over seven complete.
