Geneva rallies to beat Wolverines, 9-5

GROVE CITY, PA, May 1, 2000--The Wolverine baseball team broke a 3-3 tie with back-to-back homers in the sixth inning, but visiting Geneva (20-20) rallied with a six-run seventh to defeat Grove City (13-16) by a 9-5 count in the non-league affair.

Geneva posted three runs in the first inning before Adam Myers (Conneaut Lake, PA/Conneaut Lake) got Grove City even with run-scoring hits in the first, third and fifth frames.  Myers went 3-for-4 in the game with a double.  Eric Bell (Grove City, PA/Grove City) also went 3-for-4, scoring the Wolverines' first two runs.

Grove City took its first lead in the sixth on the strength of Nate Kauffman's (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) team-leading seventh home run of the season to right-center.  Steve Navarro (Gilbertsville, PA/The Hill School) followed with his second round-tripper of the year to left-center, putting GCC ahead 5-3. 

Geneva recovered with a six-run rally, highlighted by a three-run homer.

Justin Magee (Grove City, PA/Grove City) took the loss (2-5), giving up 12 hits while striking out three.

The second game was cancelled in the fourth due to rain with Geneva ahead 5-2.  Myers continued his torrid day at the plate with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first.
