Wolverines split four-game Tennessee trip

MARYVILLE, TN, March 12, 2001--Senior right fielder Nate Kauffman (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) cracked three home runs and a triple as the Grove City College baseball team opened the 2001 season with four games in two days at Maryville College in Tennessee last weekend.

The Wolverines went 2-2 on the trip, dropping 4-2 and 11-2 decisions to Maryville on Friday before sweeping Oberlin College on Saturday by finals of 8-1 and 8-3.

Kauffman, who recorded a team-high seven homers last season, went deep twice in the 8-3 victory and finished the trip 6-for-12 at the plate.  Senior shortstop Mike Kashurba (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) banged out four hits, including a double.

Senior J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University) and junior Justin Magee (Mercer, PA/Grove City), both right-handed pitchers, notched victories in their first starts Saturday.
