First Game Box   Second Game Box

GREENVILLE, PA, March 23, 2001--Wolverine pitchers surrendered just one unearned run on seven hits Friday as the Grove City College baseball team swept a doubleheader from host Thiel College by finals of 8-1 and 2-0.

Grove City improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, while Thiel dropped to 1-13 overall, 0-2 in the PAC.

Offensively, the Wolverines did the most damage in their opening at-bat as sophomore 1B Steve Navarro (Gilbertsville, PA/The Hill School) sparked a seven-run first inning with a grand slam -- his first home run of the season and third in his career.  Senior CF Adam Booth (Hartville, OH/Lake) went 3-for-4 in the first game and scored two runs, while senior C Jeff Conaway (Freeport, PA/Freeport) added a double to account for the team's only other extra-base hit.  Senior P J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University) notched the victory (2-0), allowing just one hit over five innings, while striking out five and walking two.  Senior southpaw Mike Suchan (Independence, OH/Independence) added two innings of scoreless relief.

In the nightcap, senior Brian Kaufold (Butler, PA/Butler) picked up the win (1-1), yielding four hits in six shutout innings, striking out four and walking none.  Freshman Sean O'Donnell (Brackenridge, PA/St. Joseph) came on in the seventh to earn his first career save.  Navarro walked twice and came around to score both Wolverine runs.  Sophomore C Matt Skipper (Canton, OH/Canton South) went 2-for-3, doubling in the first tally in the second inning.  The other run came in the fourth when freshman 2B Jake Cuthbert (Belle Vernon, PA/Belle Vernon) walked with the bases loaded.
