GCC swept at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, PA, April 12, 2001--The Grove City College baseball team lost a pair of one-run games to Westminster College on an unseasonably warm and windy day in New Wilmington on Thursday.

The 1-0 and 2-1 setbacks dropped the Wolverines' record to 8-7 overall.

Senior RHP J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University) tossed a gem in the first game, allowing just five hits, while striking out three and walking two.  Both free passes came in the bottom of the sixth, when Westminster plated the only run of the game (earned).  The Wolverines, who were shuout for the first time since #####, collected five hits in the contest, including doubles by senior SS Mike Kashurba and senior DH Adam Myers (Conneaut Lake, PA/Conneaut Lake).  Senior RF Nate Kauffman (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan), senior C Jeff Conaway () and junior Mike Volchko each added singles.

In the nightcap, junior RHP Justin Magee (Grove City, PA/Grove City) was equally effective on the hill, yielding five hits over 6-1/3 innings.   Magee struck out five and walked two.  Grove City opened the scoring in the top of the sixth when junior LF Eric Bell (Grove City, PA/Grove City) doubled home Myers, who was hit-by-the-pitch.  Westminster rallied in the bottom of the seventh, however, tying the game 1-1 with a run-scoring double after one out.  The Titans followed by driving home the game-winner with a single off of freshman RHP Matt Kearney (New Castle, PA/Neshannock),
