GROVE CITY, PA, April 24, 2001--No, La Roche College has not added football.

The Grove City College baseball team (14-8) extended its winning streak to five on Tuesday, belting five home runs in a two-game sweep over visiting La Roche by finals of 6-5 and 21-0.  The 21 runs marked the most runs scored by the Wolverines since they beat Gannon University, 22-10, on April 7, 1981.

Five different Wolverines homered in the twin bill, including senior RF Nate Kauffman (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan), who cracked a grand slam as part of a nine-run fifth inning in Game Two, marking his school-record ninth homer of the season.  Sophomore Steve Navarro (Gilbertsville, PA/The Hill School) belted a three-run shot in the second inning (his fifth).  Senior LF Adam Myers (Conneaut Lake, PA/Conneaut Lake) hit a two-run blast in the third inning (his first) and senior 3B J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University) added a solo shot in third (his third).

The 19-hit blowout came after a nail-biting first game, which was won in the bottom of the seventh when senior SS Mike Kashurba (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) cranked a two-run homer (his second) to rally the Wolverines from a 5-4 deficit.

The five home runs raised the team's season total to 22, tying the school record set last year.

A pair of freshmen picked up the wins on the hill as Chris Hull (Chagrin Falls, OH/Chagrin Falls) notched his third victory (3-0) in four days  and Gregg Grupp (Harmony, PA/Slippery Rock) won his college debut (1-0).  Hull allowed one run on four hits in two innings of relief in Game One, while Grupp fanned seven and allowed just three hits over four innings in the nightcap.
