Navarro hits grand slam but GCC drops two
LYNCHBURG, VA, March 16, 2002--The Grove City College baseball team fell to 0-4 on the season Saturday, losing to Frostburg State University, 14-8, and Lynchburg College, 5-2, in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Sophomore 2B Jake Cuthbert (Belle Vernon, PA/Belle Vernon) collected three hits in four at-bats against Frostburg State and junior 1B Steve Navarro (Gilbertsville, PA/The Hill School) belted a grand slam in the fifth inning, but the Wolverines couldn't overcome a 10-1 deficit through the first four frames.
Freshman SS David DiDonato (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) went 3-for-4 in the loss to Lynchburg, which was called in the sixth inning due to rain. Senior CF Eric Bell (Grove City, PA/Grove City), junior 3B Jason Onyshko (Valencia, PA/Mars) and freshman DH Michael McMillen (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) had two hits each.
Lynchburg jumped out to 5-0 lead after three innings before Grove City rallied with a run in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Frostburg State upped its season record to 3-2, while
Lynchburg improved to 10-7 overall.
