GROVE CITY, PA, April 4, 2002--The visiting
Waynesburg Yellow Jackets pounded out 18 hits to defeat the Grove City College
baseball team (0-7, 0-3 PAC) 13-5 in a one-game nine-inning contest in Presidents'
Athletic Conference action.
Six Waynesburg hitters collected at least 2
RBI each, and every starter got a hit, as the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 7-0
lead through the top of the fourth inning.
Yellow Jacket starter Nick Sivrich limited the Wolverines to four hits
and two earned runs, while hitting six batters, in his seven innings of work.
Jason Tremblay set the pace for Waynesburg at the plate with a 4-5, 2
RBI, 2 run effort.
Senior 1B Drew Hoagland (Butler, PA/Knoch)
led Grove City with a 2-3 afternoon, driving in a run while being hit by two
Sivrich offerings to reach base four times on the day.
Sophomore 2B Jake Cuthbert (Belle Vernon, PA/Belle Vernon) also collected
two hits, singled in a run, and scored another.
Junior C Matt Skipper (Canton, OH/Canton South) drove a double to the
wall in left to knock in a run and picked up his other RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Sophomore Greg Grupp (Harmony, PA/Slippery
Rock) pitched well for three innings in relief of sophomore Sean O’Donnell
(Brackenridge, PA/St. Joseph), getting out of a no out, bases loaded situation
in the fourth with a strikeout and a well-turned 4-6-3 double play.
Grupp got into trouble in both the seventh and eighth before handing the
ball to freshman Shawn Thompson (Union City, PA/Union City), who got the final
six outs.
Grove City returns to PAC action tomorrow with a one-game nine-inning trip to Bethany College. The Wolverines will host the Bison for a pair of games on Saturday afternoon. The first pitch is at 1 PM.
