NEW WILMINGTON, PA, April 10, 2002-- The Westminster Titans got outstanding pitching from Pat Boyle, good defense behind him, and timely hitting as they shut out the Grove City College baseball team (1-8, 1-3 PAC) 7-0. Boyle struck out 12 and scattered six hits to record the victory, and Niels Jorgensen hit a homer and a double.
Junior C Matt Skipper (Canton, OH/Canton South) was the only Wolverine to record two hits as he collected a pair of singles. Senior starter Justin Magee (Grove City, PA/Grove City) surrendered three earned runs in five-plus innings to suffer the loss. Sophomore Sean O’Donnell (Brackenridge, PA/St. Joseph) pitched the final three innings and struck out four.
Grove City will host the Titans for a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon starting at 1 PM. This is Westminster’s final season in its reclassification from Division II to Division III. The Titans will be full Presidents' Athletic Conference members next year.
