GROVE CITY, PA, April 15, 2002 --The Grove City College baseball team (5-10, 5-3 PAC) pushed its winning streak to four games on Monday after sweeping visiting Thiel College in a doubleheader by scores of 7-2 and 13-8.  The Wolverines pounded out 24 hits in the two game set.

In the first game, senior starter Justin Magee (Grove City, PA/Grove City) pitched six solid innings for the Wolverines to get the win.  Grove City jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second by taking advantage of two Tomcat errors.  Senior CF Eric Bell (Grove City, PA/Grove City) and sophomore 2B Jake Cuthbert (Belle Vernon, PA/Belle Vernon) both drove in runs in the frame.  Cuthbert went 3-for-3 on the day.

The second game was a wild affair punctuated by a half hour tornado-watch delay in the sixth inning.  Grove City answered Thiel’s three-run first with two in the bottom half when sophomore 2B Sean O’Donnell (Brackenridge, PA/St. Joseph) and freshman DH Joel Diller (Hartville, OH/Marlington) both doubled.  A messy second inning defensively led to four Wolverine runs on three Thiel errors to give Grove City a 6-2 margin.  The gap was closed to 10-8 after the top of the fifth, but two runs in the bottom half of the inning and one in the sixth provided the final score.  Freshman Mike Gundy (Grand Rapids, MI/Grand Rapids Christian) picked up the victory as he was perfect over 1-2/3 innings in relief of Cuthbert.

Diller went 3-for-6 with three runs scored and three RBI, and walked three times in the doubleheader.  Joining him were freshman 3B John Mycyk (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy) who went 3-5 with three runs scored and two RBI, and Bell, who scored three times and drove in three.  Junior C Matt Skipper (Canton, OH/Canton South) extended his hitting streak to 10 games and is .471 (16-of-34) over the stretch.
