March 23, 1999--
Nate Kauffman (Cecil, PA/Canon-McMillan) reached base four times and scored three runs as the Wolverines topped La Roche, 11-5, in the home opener.

Kauffman singled and was plunked three times, one "bean" shy of the NCAA Division III record shared by four players.  There were nine hit batsmen in the game (Grove City 4/La Roche 5), one off the Division III record set on April 21, 1998 between Neumann (10) and Wesley (1). 

J.G. Louden (Morgantown, WV/University) collected two singles and also scored three runs -- in the Wolverines' three-run third, four-run fourth and three-run fifth.   Mike Kashurba (Latrobe, PA/Latrobe), Paul Como (Grove City, PA/Grove City) and John Napotnik (Sharpsville, PA/Sharpsville) also contributed two hits apiece.

Chris Hussar (Newtown Square, PA/Delaware County Christian) got the win in his first start of the season, allowing five hits and striking out four over four innings. 

Eric Kephart (Osceola Mills, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) and Drew Hoagland (Butler, PA/Knoch) banged out three hits each to lead Grove City to an 11-3 win in the nightcap.   Como had two hits and three RBI, giving him six ribbies on the day.  Ron Jones (Butler, PA/Knoch) cracked a two-run homer, his second of the season.

Starter Brian Kaufold (Butler, PA/Butler) notched the win, surrendering five hits and striking out three in four innings of work.

Grove City had 25 hits on the day and improved to 3-1.  La Roche fell to 0-5.
