Waynesburg stops Grove City, 7-4

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team fell to 5-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Friday afternoon with a 7-4 loss to visiting Waynesburg (8-12, 3-5 PAC) at College Field.

Grove City (8-13 overall) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as sophomore shortstop Mike Ritter (Moon, Pa./Moon) belted a two-run single, driving in junior catcher A.J. Stedford (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) and junior third baseman Jonathan Mycyk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy). Mycyk had doubled earlier in the inning.

In the seventh, Ritter cut Waynesburg's 4-2 lead in half with a solo homer, his first of the season. He went 3-for-4 on the afternoon. Sophomore center fielder Jerry Ott (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) had two hits, as did senior DH Greg Grupp (Harmony, Pa./Slippery Rock). Grupp went 2-for-3, raising his average to .434 for the season.

Junior right-hander Mike Gundy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids) took the loss for the Wolverines, allowing two earned runs in six innings. Gundy yielded nine hits and four runs, falling to 1-2 on the season. Junior righty Luke Lester (Dover, Ohio/Dover) pitched three innings of relief.

Grove City will play a doubleheader at Waynesburg Saturday afternoon, starting at 1 p.m.
