Wolverines fall in extra innings

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team fell to 6-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Monday afternoon with a 5-3, 10-inning loss to Washington and Jefferson (14-9, 7-3 PAC) at College Field.

Grove City (9-15 overall) led 3-1 entering the eighth inning before the Presidents tied the game with a pair of runs. Washington and Jefferson pulled ahead in the 10th inning with a pair of unearned runs off sophomore starter Ryan Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk).

Carr pitched all 10 innings and allowed just eight hits and three earned runs. He struck out six and walked only one.

Grove City took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as freshman second baseman Neil Hoagland (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch) walked and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from junior first baseman Joel Diller (Hartville, Ohio/Marlington). Later, Diller added a run-scoring single in the third to put the Wolverines up 2-1.

In the sixth, Grove City doubled its lead as sophomore right fielder Greg Hrebinko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) belted a double that drove in junior catcher A.J. Stedford (Beaver, Pa./Beaver). Hrebinko also singled while sophomore center fielder Jerry Ott (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) doubled and singled.

Stedford and Diller also had two hits. Grove City visits La Roche Tuesday for a 9-inning game at 3 p.m.
