Prexies down Grove City, 9-2

BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College baseball team fell into the loser's bracket of the 2004 Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament with a 9-2 loss to second-seeded Washington and Jefferson Thursday afternoon at Bethany Park.

The third-seeded Wolverines (12-18) will play top seed Bethany Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. with the winner playing again at 4 p.m. Washington and Jefferson plays Waynesburg in a winner's bracket game at 10 a.m.

Grove City fell behind 2-0 but forged a 2-2 tie in the fourth as junior third baseman Jonathan Mycyk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) roped a two-run single, scoring sophomore center fielder Jerry Ott (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and senior DH Greg Grupp (Harmony, Pa./Slippery Rock). Ott opened the inning with a double.

Sophomore Erik Arnesen (Princeton, N.J./Timothy Christian) took the loss for Grove City, allowing nine runs and 12 hits in 4 1/3 innings. Wolverine relievers Mike Gundy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and Chris Hull (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) blanked the Presidents the rest of the way, allowing just two hits.

Sam Mann pitched a complete game for Washington and Jefferson, striking out five.
