Presidents sweep Wolverines

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team fell to 0-6 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon as visiting Washington and Jefferson swept a PAC doubleheader at College Field, 7-0 and 6-2.

Washington and Jefferson (11-7, 4-2 PAC) took command of the first game with a five-run fourth inning. President right-hander Sam Mann limited the Wolverines (2-13, 0-6 PAC) to just three hits in the opener.

Junior Erik Arnesen (Princeton, N.J./Timothy Christian) took the loss for Grove City, allowing five earned runs in four innings. Senior Luke Lester (Dover, Ohio/Dover) pitched two scoreless innings in relief while sophomore Justin Miller (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) pitched the seventh.

Freshman second baseman Bryan Pierrot (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) opened the game with a home run for the Wolverines, his first of the season. He also cracked a sixth-inning double. Freshman catcher Ray Mertz (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) went 2-for-3 for Grove City while senior Michael McMillen (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) had an RBI.

Junior Ryan Carr (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) took the loss, allowing five earned runs in a complete-game effort.

Grove City will visit Pitt-Greensburg Monday in a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.
