Metcalf named All-Region

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College senior pitcher Cory Metcalf (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) recently earned Third Team All-Mideast Region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Metcalf set a new single-season Grove City record with 10 victories during the 2011 season and finished the season 10-0. Metcalf led Grove City in starts (12) and innings pitched (77.0). He compiled a 4.79 earned run average.

Metcalf earned the Presidents' Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Year award and also received First Team All-PAC recognition following the season. He helped Grove City (25-16 overall) capture the conference's regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the PAC Championship Tournament.

Metcalf closed his career Saturday with a complete-game victory over Medaille in the quarterfinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Championship Tournament. His effort helped propel Grove City to its first-ever ECAC baseball title.

A Grove City player has achieved ABCA All-Region in each of the last six seasons. In 2006, pitcher Erik Arnesen earned All-Mideast. Outfielder Brian Moran received All-Region recognition in 2007 and 2008. Catcher Marcus Magister achieved All-Mideast in 2009 and again in 2010.
