Hilbert (2-11) jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the second inning as three early Grove City errors led to seven unearned runs. Grove City eventually closed to 13-7 with a six-run sixth inning. Grove City scored twice in the seventh and brought the tying run to the plate that inning but could not complete the comeback effort.

Schwamberger doubled, singled and drove in three runs in the nightcap while sophomore shortstop Ben Wilson (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) went 2 for 3 with three runs scored. Pierrot and Moran both singled twice.

Freshman pitcher Michael Herringshaw (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) took the loss for Grove City, allowing six runs (one earned) in 1 1/3 innings. Sophomore Matt Tindall (Copley, Ohio/Copley) pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief during the middle innings and allowed one unearned run.
