Lake Erie tops Grove City, 4-1

EASTLAKE, Ohio -- The Grove City College baseball team fell to 10-9 overall Thursday night with a 4-1 loss to Lake Erie College in non-conference action at Classic Park, home of the Cleveland Indians' Class A affiliate, the Lake County Captains.

Freshman pitcher Mike Herringshaw (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) fired his first collegiate complete game for Grove City, allowing nine hits and three earned runs in eight innings. However, five Lake Erie pitchers combined to limit Grove City to eight singles.

Lake Erie led 4-0 before Grove City broke through in the top of the fifth. Sophomore DH Brad Stombaugh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) singled and eventually scored on a single by junior second baseman Bryan Pierrot (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth).

Stombaugh finished the night 2 for 3 while sophomore shortstop Ben Wilson (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) added a pair of singles. The Wolverines left a dozen runners on base in the game.

Grove City will host Westminster Friday at 4 p.m. in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at College Field.
