Grove City falls in 10, 6-5

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped a 6-5, 10-inning decision to host Penn State Behrend Thursday afternoon at Behrend Field in non-conference action. Grove City is now 5-6 overall.

Grove City collected 14 hits, including a 4-for-6 effort from senior second baseman Bryan Pierrot (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth). Pierrot doubled to go along with his three singles. Junior shortstop Ben Wilson (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) doubled and singled while junior left fielder Seth Thompson (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) also doubled.

Junior first baseman Brad Stombaugh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) went collected three hits while senior catcher Ray Mertz (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) singled twice and drove in a pair of runs.

Sophomore pitcher Michael Herringshaw (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) took the loss after allowing a run in the 10th. Senior Chris Bowser (Stow, Ohio/Stow) started and allowed two runs in six innings. Junior Matt Tindall (Copley, Ohio/Copley) pitched a scoreless seventh inning while freshman Cory Metcalf (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) yielded three runs in two innings of relief.

Both teams left 12 runners on base.

Grove City will visit Saint Vincent Saturday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader at noon in Latrobe, Pa.
